il conteggio mondiale di tigri selvatiche è salito per la prima volta in più di un secolo, con 3.890 animali contati dai gruppi animalisti e da vari nella più recente censimento globale.
Il bilancio segna una svolta dall’ultima stima in tutto il mondo nel 2010, quando il numero di tigri allo stato selvatico ha colpito un minimo storico di circa 3.200.
Questa è la prima volta che i conteggi delle tigri sono in aumento dal 1900, quando c’erano più di 100.000 tigri allo stato selvatico.
“Più importante del numero assoluto è la tendenza della gente , e stiamo vedendo che questa tendenza va nella giusta direzione”, ha detto Ginette Hemley, vice presidente della conservazione della fauna selvatica del WWF.
I ministri di 13 paesi si sono incontrati per tre giorni a New Delhi e sono impegnati a raddoppiare il numero delle tigri selvatiche entro il 2022. Leonardo DiCaprio si e` unito per sponsorizzare questa missione.
“Le tigri sono alcuni degli animali più vitali e amati sulla terra”, DiCaprio ha detto in un comunicato stampa. “Sono così orgoglioso del fatto che i nostri sforzi collettivi hanno cominciato a fare progressi verso il nostro obiettivo, ma c’è ancora tanto da fare.”
Magari potremmo aiutare nel nostro piccolo le tigri attraverso le varie associazioni che se ne prendono cura.

The world’s count of wild tigers has gone up for the first time in more than a century, with 3,890 counted by conservation groups and national governments in the latest global census, wildlife conservation groups said Monday.

The tally marks a turnaround from the last worldwide estimate in 2010, when the number of tigers in the wild hit an all-time low of about 3,200.
This is the first time tiger counts are increasing since 1900, when there were more than 100,000 tigers in the wild.
“More important than the absolute numbers is the trend, and we’re seeing the trend going in the right direction,” said Ginette Hemley, senior vice president of wildlife conservation at WWF.
Ministers from 13 countries met for three days in New Delhi and pledged to double wild tiger numbers by 2022. Leonardo DiCaprio joined the effort.
“Tigers are some of the most vital and beloved animals on Earth,” DiCaprio said in a statement. “I am so proud that our collective efforts have begun to make progress toward our goal, but there is still so much to be done.”
